Buying Used Diamonds - What Are The Risks?
Sep 3rd, 2008 by Jewels
A great way to save money is to buy used diamonds instead of shopping at your local high-end jeweler. However, you must know a thing or two first before you purchase a thing.
By getting a quick education for yourself about diamond quality factors, you can sort out the real gems from the imposters. The best place to start is with the infamous 4 C’s - have you heard of them?
The 4 C’s represent the four most important measurements of diamond quality and must be applied whether you’re buying new or used diamond jewelry. They include:
Diamond Clarity - this is perhaps the most important measurement and deals with the perfection, or imperfection of the stone.
Diamond Cut - Cuts can be tricky and certain ones are more valuable than others. And, a certain amount of skill goes into performing a cut so the quality can definitely vary.
Diamond Color - Did you know diamonds come in all sorts of colors? Well, they do and there is a value associated with each.
Diamond Carat Weight - This is the one everyone knows about but it’s probably the least important. Although bigger does mean more expensive, there is less value in a large diamond of poor clarity than a smaller one that is perfect.
