Listen To My Dream by Debi Pearl Book Review
Jun 10th, 2010 by fashion reporter
Men that call others to arise and be accounted for something more than self are rare. These men encourage others to hope and pursue a higher calling. These inspire others to dream of more, to dare to reach for the possibilities.
Such was the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He stands in stark contrast to those that grasped at the spotlight for the sake of prominence and fame. It was not enough that the laws of the land be changed; He pressed for individuals to have their hearts turned to do right. He prodded people to pursue excellence.
What changed King from being an average preacher to an international figure calling for change? It started when Martin Luther King met Coretta Scott. Coretta and Martin Luther both loved opera. That was what brought them together for their first date. The following spring, King proposed to Scott and she accepted while agreeing to support his calling as a preacher. After the incident where Rosa Parks was arrested in 1955 for not giving up her bus seat to a white man, King was called and with Coretta’s permission, accepted the position of leading the boycott against the bus system that propelled him to a more prominent stage in life. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. went on to inspire change amongst his followers by taking action to gain certain civil rights such as the right to vote, the right to gather to talk and the right to march.
With Dr. King as her inspiration, a Tennessee grandmother has written a tribute entitled, Listen To My Dream.
This volume is the first children’s book written by Debi Pearl. Dr. King’s call is passed on to the next generation in this colorfully illustrated book. The images are the work of Debi’s husband, Michael Pearl. The book was made possible with the cooperation of the Heirs of the Estate of Martin Luther King, Jr. and is available now.
