Focused mostly in Tokyo, Japan, the Citizen Holdings Co., LTD was founded in 1918. The company currently makes CINCOM precision tools. Citizen, their trade name, originated from a pocket watch from 1924. It is apparent that Citizen eco watches are some of the most popular and most produced timepieces in the world.
Eco-Drive devices, which are manufactured by Citizen, are the most well-known watch in the US. Each timepiece has a solar panel powered battery that fits snugly under the face of the watch. Even though the line has the special solar powered battery system, the Eco-Drive Duo series was discontinued and has since been quite rare. Also with the Eco-Drive concept is the Eco-Drive Thermo. This device uses the temperature of the wearer and the temperature of the climate to charge the battery.
The current Eco-Drive system described on the Citizen Watch Official Web Site is the technology that depends completely on light as a power source. The Tough Solar battery technology is really similar to the Eco-Drive feature. Every Eco-Drive model is created in Japan and constructed in China.
The Skyhawk A-T collection of timepieces have Atomic Timekeeping that is controlled via radio-controlled accuracy. The watches are able to accurately synchronize with atomic clocks in Europe, Japan and North America. They will automatically adjust to the proper frequency based on the location of the home time zone.
Home and world are the two time zones that the timepieces have but they primarily synchronize to the home zone. Wearers are able to change from home to world zones while traveling across the world. Therefore, proper time signal reception is received on a different continent while retaining the other time. The day, date and Daylight Savings Time settings are automatically set when the device is synchronized. Features are comparable with the synchronization of atomic clocks found in Casino Wave Ceptor watches.
Collector devices are also manufactured by Citizen. Collectors can obtain special watches with the logo and colors of the Blue Angels. This particular timepiece is part of the Skyhawk A-T line and uses the Eco-Drive technology as its main power source. It also includes Atomic Timekeeping. The bezel includes a slide rule that is useful for calculating speed, time, distance and other valuable techniques for pilots. The Blue Angels use the colors gold and blue as their trademark and the watch possesses the same scheme.
The DCP (Deployment Clasp with a Push Button) clasp is available for the majority of Citizen watch bracelet bands. As with the Calibre 8700, the clasp can be used with leather bands as if they were metal bracelet wrist-bands. When the clasp is fastened, however, the band looks like a normal eye-hole and link pin leather wrist-band.
The Citizen Holdings Company is popularly known for their Citizen eco watches but they also produce small electronic organizers and calculators. Besides their mens wristwatches, Citizen has also offered computer printers and handheld televisions. Since the mid-1990s, Citizen decided to team up with the Compaq Computer Corporation. Since then, notebook computers have been built in Far Eastern markets and Japan. The computers are sold with the Compaq title.
